In response to COVID-19 impacts, face coverings are required by the Mississippi Band of Choctaw Indians.

Tribal Chief Cyrus Ben announced the order, declaring everyone over the age of two must wear a face mask when interacting in public places on tribal lands.

In the order, public places are defined as businesses, places of worship, transportation services and more.

Face coverings are defined as a covering over the nose and mouth. According to the order, coverings may be fashioned from scarves, bandannas or other suitable fabrics.

Chief Ben said the order requiring masks is in the best interest of the health and safety of tribal members.

More information can be found on the MBCI’s official Facebook page.

The MBCI has reported a total of 930 confirmed cases of coronavirus, 66 deaths, and 689 recoveries.
