Local 4th of July fireworks show held in Clarke County
MERIDIAN, Miss. (WTOK) - Many fireworks displays and parades have been canceled locally for this year's Independence Day, but that didn't stop a water park in Quitman from lighting up the night sky with fireworks.
Over a thousand people came to Archusa Creek Water Park and sat near their cars to watch the amazing fireworks show Friday night. The event also featured a boat parade, food vendors and live music. Organizers say they have a big turnout every year and this year adds on to that tradition. We spoke with locals that said they drove from Meridian just to see the light show.
“We’re so excited. I’m so glad that we came because we didn’t know if there was going to be a firework show. We came all the way from Meridian,” said Bridget Ana.
“There’s not a lot of countries that still allow you to do stuff like this. Luckily, we still have a free country to participate in functions like this. I hope everybody understands the freedoms we have and everyone comes back together as a country,” said Menno Lagendyk.
“I love it. It’s a good deal especially with everything that’s going on. I think that we need this and not only as a community but as a country,” said local Jason Davidson.
Organizers said the fireworks display was to honor service members and essential workers.
