It's summertime in Mississippi and if you've stepped outside you know what that means- heat and humidity. Neshoba County is no exception.

Chandler Young, who works at Adkins Barber Shop in town, where the door usually stays open, said the heat is no surprise to him, in fact he expects it.

“It’s normal. It’s about this way every year. We’ve got both air conditioners going and the fans going I’ve got these chairs out here but it’s too hot for anyone to sit out,” said Young.

Most days of the week, Ike Melton can be found outside with his produce stand, in front of Adkins Barber Shop. Despite the heat we’re experiencing, he said he’s been pleasantly surprised so far.

“It’s actually been a very pleasant summer so far with all the rain and clouds in the wind that we have. Normally there’s not a breeze. So far though it’s been kind of pleasant,” said Melton.

However, Melton said he does take all the necessary precautions to stay safe and beat the heat.

“Behind me we have the shade set up not only for the produce, but us as well. We try to stay in the shade as much as possible, drink plenty of fluids water and Gatorade and stay as cool as we can when we can,” said Melton.
