Kemper County family remembers loved one 3 years after death
MERIDIAN, Miss. (WTOK) - A family is still mourning the death of 41-year-old Emmanuel Morris three years after he was shot to death.
"The moment I got the news all I could do it drop down and scream." said Emmanuel Morris wife Rochelle Morris.
Emmanuel Morris was found shot to death on the side of a remote road near Preston. When Emmanuel’s wife Roshelle heard the news of her husband- she said she was in disbelief.
"I didn't believe it and I didn't want to believe it. I want to believe that it was lies. I will never see my husband again." Morris said.
The family held a vigil at Emmanuel’s gravesite to celebrate his life.
“I love him to death. I love him every day. There’s not a day that goes by that we don’t think about him. Just because it been 3 years that don’t mean we have forgotten about him. That is why we are here today.” said Melinda Windham, sister of Emmanuel.
Kemper County Sheriff James Moore said this is still an ongoing investigation. As for Emmanuel Morris' family, they said all they want is one thing.
"We want some kind of justice and satisfaction because Black Lives Matter. His life was taken three years ago, and nothing was said or done about it. I'm tired and some of us can't sleep at night because I know I can't." said Cecil Morris, the father of Emmanuel.
Emmanuel’s wife just wants closure.
“I need justice, Kemper County Sheriff’s Department. It’s been three long years. I need closure. This is hard to deal with every day and night. I accept that I can never have him back but I do need justice,” said Rochelle.
