MERIDIAN, Miss. (WTOK) - Intense heat will continue to bake much of the Deep South throughout this week. Spotty showers will be few, but they can provide some short-lived relief from the most intense heat if you're lucky enough to be found by one of those showers.

Summer Heat Set On Bake

Each afternoon this week, we will warm into the mid-90s. Heat index values will be up to ten degrees warmer. That means the heat and humidity together will make us feel like 102-107 degrees each day.

Heat Safety

Remember to take it easy if you’re outside in this heat. Staying hydrated is important, so make sure you’re drinking plenty of water. Take frequent breaks in the air conditioning if possible. If you can avoid the heat for long periods of time, that’s even better.

Little Reprieve From Showers

Afternoon showers will be few, but the humidity is high enough that the heat alone could trigger a few afternoon showers or thunderstorms each day. Most areas will stay dry, but those areas that get rained on will get a temporary reprieve from the most intense heat as temperatures cool into the lower 80s near those showers.

The Next 24 Hours

This evening will be mostly clear with a slight chance for a stray shower. We will cool into the lower 80s by 10 PM. The rest of tonight will be mostly clear. The low temperature will be near 73 degrees. Tuesday will be mostly sunny to partly cloudy with a small chance for a couple of stray showers or thunderstorms. The high temperature will be near 95 degrees. Heat indices will be near 105 degrees.
