Boys & Girls Club reaches out to feed community
MERIDIAN, Miss. (WTOK) - In Meridian, businesses and residents have been hit hard by the COVID-19 pandemic, but that has not stopped the Boys & Girls Club from continuing their mission.
The Boys & Girls Club said it’s served more than 10,000 ‘to-go’ meals since the pandemic first began. Since March, this nonprofit organization has been giving out grab and go meals. Those meals are served at some of their locations, and they are even delivering the meals into communities that need it in Meridian.
“The main reason we started doing this is that we know our kids needed to eat throughout the day. Right now we are doing about 150 a day at the boys and girls club. All the kids in the area have an opportunity to get breakfast, lunch, snacks and even supper,” said Meridian Boys and Girls Club CEO, Ricky Hood.
The boys and girls club has opened its doors back to the public but with a 35% capacity and strict safety precautions.
