Receivers from Mississippi, Alabama named to Biletnikoff Award watch list
TALLAHASSEE, Fla. - The Biletnikoff Award is presented annually to college football’s most outstanding receiver at any position.
The award’s watch list, which includes 55 receivers from FBS programs, was released this week with college receivers from schools in Mississippi and Alabama making the cut.
Ole Miss received one nomination with senior wide receiver Elijah Moore. A preseason All-SEC selection, Moore lead the Rebels in receptions (67), yards (850) and receiving touchdowns (six) last season. The receiver’s tallied a career-high 143 yards on nine catches last season vs. eventual CFP National Champion LSU.
Another Mississippi receiver to make the list is Southern Miss senior wide receiver Tim Jones. Jones enters the 2019 season with 902 yards receiving and three touchdowns on 73 catches. The senior is 469 yards away from joining USM’s 2,000-yard club.
Over in Tuscaloosa, an Alabama duo also landed on the Biletnikoff Award watch list. The pair include senior Devonta Smith and junior Jaylen Waddle. Waddle finished the 2019 season with 33 catches for 560 yards and six touchdowns. Smith, who opted not to declare for the 2020 NFL Draft, ended his junior season with 68 catches for 1,256 yards and 14 touchdowns.
Auburn’s Seth Williams and LSU’s Ja’Marr Chase and Terrace Marshall Jr. were also named to the list. Ja’Marr Chase won the 2019 award with players being allowed to win the award more than once. The last receiver to win the award twice was Oklahoma State’s Justin Blackmon in 2010 and 2011.
