MERIDIAN, Miss. (WTOK) - The Gulf South Conference, which houses the University of West Alabama (UWA) and 12 other schools, announced the fall sports calendar for all member schools has been delayed to the last week of September or the first week of October.

According to a statement released by the conference, the decision to delay the fall sports season was made on Tuesday with a formal announcement being made Thursday.

“Administrators from across the league will jointly work on a schedule that fits the timeline for competition in an effort to provide a meaningful fall competition season for conference members,” the statement also reads. “To accommodate this new schedule, soccer, volleyball, and football will exclusively play against conference opponents.”

Due to the delay of the start of competition, the start of official fall workouts will also be delayed.
