Sumter County PSD cancels Fall sports
LIVINGSTON, Ala. (WTOK) - Sumter County Public School District announced Monday that it will be canceling all fall sports for the 2020 school year.
The sports affected include football, volleyball and cross country. The district has also put a stop to all summer workouts for teams.
Sumter County has seen a total of 348 positive COVID-19 cases with 15 deaths.
Superintendent Dr. Anthony Gardner said the decision was made with community health in mind.
“Taking into consideration that the safety of our students, faculty, families, and community at large,” said Dr. Gardner. “We don’t want to put our community in a situation to where it will spark an even greater spread of this virus in our county.”
The school district also announced that the first 45 days of school will be virtual.
