MERIDIAN, Miss. (WTOK) - A drive thru food bank was put on by New Beginnings Outreach Ministries in Meridian Wednesday morning.

The ministry gave about 1,500 boxes of fruits and vegetables to people in need this morning. Organizers say there was an extra need to give away this food due to the economic problems from the COVID-19 pandemic. The ministry hopes to have more events like this and will announce them over their Facebook page and on the radio.

“We not only service Lauderdale County, we service anyone with a need, our motto is that we’re concerned about your outcome, and not your income,” says Claude Evins, the pastor at New Beginnings Outreach Ministries. “It is important for us to do something for our community and in our community. As I said, we appreciate other people helping, we appreciate what they do, but somewhere it needs to be about what we can do.”

The food bank was also done in memory of Bishop Marcela Evins, Sr. The ministry is located at 721 Front Street extension 715.
