MERIDIAN, Miss. (WTOK) - Police are searching for new details in Tuesday evening’s Homicide in Meridian. The incident involved two cousins that were in Meridian for a golf tournament.

Interim Police Chief Charles Coleman says it all began when the two cousins met a person through Snapchat.

“The individuals met on what appeared to be Snapchat or a social media page. Right now it’s learned that they were meeting to purchase a watch from the two individuals,” Coleman says.

The cousins drove in their truck to the area of Old Marion Rd. around 6 o’clock Tuesday evening.

“The two black male subjects entered the vehicle at the rear, one pulled a weapon and demanded their money. The witness stated he had $40. He gave him his $40,” Coleman explains.

The driver got into a fight over the gun and that’s when the suspect shot the driver at least one time in the torso.

“During the investigation, we learned one was playing in a golf tournament and the other was here visiting,” Coleman says.

At this time, the victim’s name is not being released, but he is from Lee County.

“Right now, all we know is that it’s two young black males. We are asking anyone with any information to please come forward and notify the police department,” Coleman says.

If you have information call the Meridian Police Department at 601-485-1893 or the East Mississippi Crimestoppers line at 855-485-TIPS.
