Marion School Supply Drive set for Saturday
MARION, Miss. (WTOK) - With school right around the corner, this weekend will be a big one for those in need of school supplies.
The Marion Police Department is having its annual school supply giveaway at the Hamasa Shriners Building in Marion on Saturday. The hours are 9 AM to 1 PM and the department encourages you to bring your children.
Hundreds of markers, crayons, packs of paper and anything else your child might need will be available. The department also has more than 1,500 book bags. If you would like to help out or donate, you can call Marion Town Hall.
“We want people to come and practice social distancing. Wear a mask, gloves or whatever you need to prepare for this. It’s been a tough go at it trying to get this done with everything going on. It came through,” Davis says.
Aside from school supplies, there will be representatives from Weems Mental Health, Air Force recruiters and others. It takes a team of people to put together such a big giveaway.
“All have participated in collecting, picking up, storing and counting. A lot of this stuff has already been counted so we know what we have to share and distribute,” Sgt. C.J. Jimison says.
If there’s anything left over, it will be distributed later.
“Whatever we have left, we are going to hit schools in this area. We are going to hit schools outside of this area,” Davis explains.
“It shows that even though we’re small, we have a big heart,” Jimison says.
