MERIDIAN, Miss. (WTOK) -A local church and other organizations around the area put together a food giveaway to ensure that no family in Meridian goes hungry.

It was an early morning as residents went out to grab free boxes of fresh vegetables at the 31st Missionary Baptist Church in Meridian. The church gave out 15-hundred boxes of food to families in need as a push for their annual “Feeding the Multitude Food Box Giveaway”. Organizers started handing out boxes at 7 in the morning and gave their last box at little after 9:30 in the morning.

“Evangelist Tammy Thomas and I got together with Bobby’s Community Serves of West Alabama. We had the opportunity to bless the people of East Mississippi and West Alabama, “said Tammy Thompson, the founder of H.O.P.E.

“This is about ministry and the time we’re in today. We’re facing economic challenges, social distancing, and we’re out of churches. We are the church it is not just a building. We want to do the ministry of the people and to feed them,” said Sunday School Live, Pastor Allan Cole.

If you missed Saturday’s giveaway, you can catch them again every Friday for the month of August at thirty-first Missionary Baptist Church from 7 am until 9:30 am.
