PHILADELPHIA, Miss. (WTOK) - The seasonal shopping event, Third Thursday in downtown Philadelphia will be a little different this year.

All the stores around the square will participate by staying open from 5 till 8 p.m., Thursday. Special deals and last-minute Christmas gifts will be available.

Due to COVID-19, masks and social distancing are encouraged while inside the stores. The Communication Director for the Community Development Partnership, Amelia Henson encourages people to come out and enjoy the local stores and restaurants.

“Usually December is our largest attended third Thursday. So, we hope that we have good attendance.” Henson said, “We just hope that since it’s the week before Christmas, our local community will come out and buy those last-minute Christmas gifts.”

Henson says people should not lose sight of supporting locally due to a few changes.

“And that’s just a time for people that live in Philadelphia. Or, just the surrounding communities to come and shop local and support our local businesses,” Henson said.

Henson asks that shoppers be respectful of the guidelines store owners want people to follow during the Third Thursday event.
