STARKVILLE, Miss. (WLBT) - In a statement, Mississippi State University Director of Athletics John Cohen condemned the melee that broke out following the Bulldog’s victory in the Armed Forces Bowl.
“While I am proud of the representation of our football student-athletes in our previous 10 SEC games and applaud the effort of our team during the Armed Forces Bowl, I’m deeply concerned about the actions of some student-athletes,” he wrote in a statement on Twitter. “No matter what led to the situation, fighting is inexcusable and does not represent Mississippi State University’s core values.”
On Thursday, MSU defeated the University of Tulsa 28-26, in what should have been a positive moment for the Bulldogs’ football program.
However, the win was overshadowed by a brawl that broke out between the two teams.
Cohen went on to say that “our administration and Coach Leach are working diligently with the SEC office to review yesterday’s events and will address the situation in an appropriate manner.”
