No fans allowed at MPSD home basketball games in January
MERIDIAN, Miss. (WTOK) - Meridian Public School District announced Monday fans will not be allowed in attendance at home basketball games for the month of January.
“With COVID-19 numbers being at a high level and the safety of our student-athletes, coaches, and staff remains our top priority — the decision has been made to conduct home basketball games for middle and high school with no fans in attendance during the month of January,” the school district said in a press release.
While fans will not be allowed to watch games in person, they will be able to watch them online for free beginning Friday when the Wildcats host George County. To access live games, fans can go to https://www.mpsdk12.net/mhsathletics and click on the “Watch Wildcat Sports Here” banner at the top of the page.
“We wanted to make sure our passionate fanbase has the opportunity to watch the games even if they can’t be in the gym to cheer on the Wildcats,” MPSD Athletic Director Dr. Cheyenne Trussell said. “We are excited to be able to offer games at no charge via our live stream on our website.”
The district will decide towards the end of January if fans will be allowed to attend games in February.
