MERIDIAN, Miss. (WTOK) - For nearly 130 years, The Salvation Army has had bell ringers outside during the Christmas season, collecting donations in the iconic red kettles.

Although this season was a bit untraditional, with kettles being primarily digital due to COVID-19, the Meridian agency reports donors stepped up to help the Army, both online and at retail registers.

The Salvation Army did not reach its local goal of $130,000. However, a total of $98,291.72 was raised during kettle season.

The organization said it’s so grateful to the community for helping it carry out its mission and ministry during Christmas 2020 and all year long.
