MERIDIAN, Miss. (WTOK) - Waves of heavy rain are likely across East Mississippi and West Alabama on Tuesday.

Our Next 24 Hours

Storms this evening can be heavy. They will gradually fade through 10 PM as temperatures ease back to lower 70s. A few showers are possible through early Tuesday morning. Tonight will be cloudy otherwise. The low temperature by morning will be a muggy 69 degrees. Tuesday will be cloudy with periods of rain likely. There will be some dry periods, too, but when the rain is falling, it can fall heavily. The high temperature can be up to 85 degrees, but depending on exact timing of rain, many of us may not reach 80 degrees. Rainfall amounts can be as high as 2 inches with locally higher amounts in spots.

Timing Tuesday’s Storms

Tuesday’s rainy periods comes in waves. An isolated damaging wind gust is possible. The first wave can mean a tricky morning drive. Where the rain is heavy, visibility can be limited to less than a quarter mile. Remember to use your low beams in any low visibility situations. That wave of rain can linger through about lunchtime, but most of us should get a break through the afternoon. Then another wave of heavy rain will track from west to east across our area from 6 PM to midnight. Most of that rain will fall after the evening drive, but if it arrives even an hour early, it can make that evening drive a bit tricky.

Looking Ahead

Scattered to widespread showers and thunderstorms are likely again on Wednesday and again still on Thursday, but those showers and storms will gradually become less widespread from Wednesday through Saturday. Temperatures will respond by going up. Showers and thunderstorms will be more of the summer variety, scattered about the area, on Friday and Saturday.
