MERIDIAN, Miss. (WTOK) - Tyeasha “Ty” Bell Lindsey won Ward 5 seat in the general election by 76 votes.

Lindsey said she was excited when she heard the news of her win. She called it a hard campaign but said her work is far from over.

Lindsey said her focus is the pavement of roads, more jobs, and better signage in the community. She said it is time for the people of Ward 5 to know their voices matter.

Lindsey goes on to say that she is up for the challenge as a city councilwoman.

“To have this opportunity to prove to the people that they have chosen me to be the representation on the City Council seat. I am the first female to do so and I’m very proud of that. I am the first African-American female to do that as well for Ward 5 that has graduated from Meridian High School. I am a part of Ward 5. I am them and they are me. We won,” said Lindsey.

Lindsey will begin her term at the beginning of July.
