Initial hearing held for suspect in Meridian double homicide
MERIDIAN, Miss. (WTOK) - Maurice Christie, 29, was charged with 2 counts of capital murder, as well as 3 counts of possession of controlled substances.
Christie was denied bond at his initial hearing Tuesday in Meridian and has waived his preliminary hearing on all five charges. He will be jailed to await possible indictment by the next grand jury.
Christie, of San Antonio, Tex., was offered the opportunity to speak at the hearing but declined. News 11’s reporter observed that he appeared nervous.
At a news conference Tuesday, Meridian Police declined to answer questions about how the Herringtons were killed but said they had no prior connection to him.
Chief Deborah Young said details are being withheld so as not to hamper the investigation or hinder prosecution of Christie.
