QUITMAN, Miss. (WTOK) - Clarke County and the City of Quitman came together today to celebrate the service of an outstanding law enforcement officer.

Barry White has been with the Clarke County Sheriff’s Office for 31 years, serving in multiple roles in the department, before becoming Chief Deputy.

He was diagnosed with bone cancer in November of 2024.

Clarke County Sheriff Anthony Chancelor said White is more than an officer, he’s a public servant more than anything else.

“No matter what you had going on, no matter what was going on, or no matter who it was, fi you needed Barry White for whatever reason, whether it be good or bad, he was always there. He’d answer the phone, it didn’t matter if it was 2 or 3 o’clock in the morning. In my opinion, Barry White has earned the true title of a public servant.”

White will retire from the Clarke County Sheriff’s Office in April.
