BILOXI, Miss. (WLOX) - The Mississippi Department of Marine Resources (MDMR) set Monday, June 23, as the opening date for the 2025-2026 shrimp season.

Shrimpers will be able to drop their nets in state territorial waters at 6 a.m. on opening day.

MDMR staff will sample shrimp until opening day, which could be postponed if sampling indicates movement of large numbers of juvenile brown shrimp.

Recreational and commercial shrimp season north of the Intracoastal Waterway will close at 12:01 a.m. on January 1, 2026.

For areas south of the Intracoastal Waterway and west of the Gulfport Ship Channel, shrimp season will close at 12:01 a.m. on May 1, 2026.

MDMR says all rules and regulations will be in full effect.
