Couple reunite with ‘angel’ sergeant in Georgia who helped them safely deliver their baby
ATLANTA, Ga. (Atlanta News First/Gray News) - A Georgia family reunited with the deputy sergeant who helped them deliver their baby in traffic.
James Chambers was trying to rush his wife, Decoshia, to Kennestone Hospital in Cobb County when he ran into gridlocked traffic.
“It was standstill traffic, nothing was moving,” said Sgt. Jameel Fraser.
Decoshia’s water had broken and her contractions were close together. That’s when Chambers flagged down Fraser.
“Pretty much screamed out to me, ‘My wife is in labor! My wife is in labor!’” said Fraser.
Fraser said he turned on his lights and sirens and “basically parted the sea.”
The couple made it to the hospital just in time, with Decoshia immediately being taken back to labor and delivery.
“The sigh of relief once we were in the door in the wheelchair going in, I was like, ‘OK, breathe,’” said Chambers.
Decoshia and James Chambers went to the Cobb County Sheriff’s Office on May 13 with 2-week-old James Chambers Jr. to thank Sergeant Fraser.
“He was an angel placed on Dallas Highway because I still don’t know what would’ve been the outcome if he wasn’t there at that time ... He’ll be a part of our life and Junior’s life forever,” said Chambers.
