PHILADELPHIA, Miss. (WTOK) -The Ellis Theater, a cornerstone of Marty Stuart’s Congress of Country Music, has been recognized with the Mississippi Main Street Association’s Outstanding Economic Impact Award in recognition of its measurable economic impact on downtown Philadelphia during 2025.

Presented during the Mississippi Main Street Association Annual Awards Banquet in Jackson, the award recognizes a project that has had a significant and sustainable influence on its local economy.

The Ellis Theater was nominated by the Philadelphia Main Street Organization and accepted by Pat Thomasson, president of the board of the Congress of Country Music, during the awards program.

“We appreciate everything that the Mississippi Main Street Association represents and are thankful for the recognition it has given our community,” said Thomasson. “The Ellis Theater has helped to transform Philadelphia by bringing people together, attracting visitors, and energizing our local economy while creating a vibrant, welcoming atmosphere that reflects the very best of our town.”

Since reopening in December 2022, the Ellis Theater has helped attract visitors to downtown Philadelphia through concerts, special events and community programming. The City of Philadelphia has experienced a measurable increase in sales tax collections since the theater opened, reflecting increased economic activity throughout the community.

In December 2022, sales tax collections totaled approximately $420,000. By December 2025, that number had grown to approximately $525,000, with revenues projected to reach $552,000 by December 2026. This represents an overall increase of more than 31 percent since the theater’s opening.

Executive Director of Philadelphia Main Street, Tim Moore, said, “The Ellis has not only become a positive impact on economic development but also adds a great atmosphere to downtown.”

According to the Mississippi Main Street Association, this sustained growth is largely attributed to increased visitor traffic for events at the Ellis Theater, which has boosted spending at local restaurants, retail shops and lodging establishments, reinforcing the venue’s role as a driver of economic development in Philadelphia.

The Ellis Theater is currently hosting the 2026 Summer Series, showcasing a rotating lineup of live performances that continue to activate the historic venue ahead of the anticipated grand opening of the remainder of the Congress of Country Music in 2027. The Ellis remains a central component of the Congress’ commitment to expanding opportunities for live entertainment and advancing its broader vision of programming for the museum.
