Meridian police were called to the scene of a local motel Monday morning after reports of a shooting.

Around 6:30 a.m. officers arrived at the America's Best Value Inn in the 2900 block of St. Paul Street.

According to Lauderdale County Coroner Clayton Cobler, a 30-year-old woman was shot multiple times and died. Another male victim was also shot and taken to the hospital.

Captain John Griffith says investigators believe the suspect was an ex-boyfriend of the female victim.

He later turned himself in to police. His name was not immediately released.

The woman's body was transferred to the state crime lab in Pearl, Mississippi, for an autopsy.
