1 dead in fire following domestic dispute call
One person is dead after a home caught fire in the Toomsuba community Wednesday night.
Chief Deputy Ward Calhoun says deputies were called to the report of a domestic dispute around 8:00 p.m. at a home in the 6200 block of Carl Price Road.
When deputies arrived it, Calhoun says, it appeared a man was lighting a fire inside the home. Deputies tried to get the man to come out, but he never complied. The home went up in flames as emergency crews arrived on the scene.
Coroner Clayton Cobler says a man was found dead in the home from apparent smoke inhalation. Chief Deputy Calhoun says before deputies arrived a woman ran out of the home to a neighbor’s house.
There was a car in the driveway that appeared to have rammed the home causing some damage.
The investigation into the incident is underway. The name of the victim has not been released. The body will be sent to Jackson for an autopsy.
