MERIDIAN, Miss. (WTOK)- It was a meat lover's paradise from pork ribs to boston butts at the fourth Annual Barbecue Showdown Competition.
"We love it. We enjoy the community and doing everything for the radio station," said contestant Michael Johnston.
The event was held at Singing Brakeman Park. 23 teams from all over the Southeast, including Alabama, Louisiana, Mississippi and Florida showed off their barbecue skills.
"We have inflatables for the kids, a wet slide, dry slide, bounce house, petting zoo and unicorn. We got something for everybody out here," said Event Coordinator Cara Shirley.
The Radio People of Meridian sponsored this Kansas City Barbecue Society event. One contestant says this was his first time competing in this event.
"The family loves it and they said why don't you try it. We decided to go try it together and see what happens. We're have a blast our here with the family," said contestant Roy Farve.
"This is a really good event for me. I can just eat all the barbecue I ever wanted here," said local resident Avery Sullivan.
"It’s been really great. We tasted some really awesome barbecue, have some funnel cake and hear some awesome live music," said local resident Rachel Linder.
"It’s not like a fair where you run out of things to do. The petting zoo is my favorite," said local resident Delaney White.
The winner of the competition won a grand prize of $1000 dollars.
