$5,000 presented to help young artists
A local organization made a big donation Friday to help inspire young budding artists.
The Meridian Council for the Arts presented a $5,000 check to the Any Given Child program. The council raised the money at their Art for Meridian fundraiser in March.
"That's why we raise money," council president Sharon Pratt says. "That's why we seek people in the community who enjoy the arts, the groups that are supportive of the arts, to let them know we're putting this in the hand of children and teachers, people who hopefully can make good use of it."
An umbrella created by students at Meridian High School showcases what they can accomplish.
"You give students a responsibility, and it teaches them a responsibility," Any Given Child community board member Marsha Iverson says. "But with the Any Given Child program, this is what we can expect year after year."
Meridian is one of the selected few communities chosen to launch the new program.
