For around 30 years, the families of Mary-Margaret Adams and Eric Collins have been treated folks in the area to a holiday light show rivaled by few in this area.
"Mary-Margaret's granddaddy, Tommy Pritchett, and daddy Larry Ward started about 30 years ago," said James Adams. "Back in those days, everybody decorated. I can remember as a kid in Pensacola we would ride around and look at decorations. We would go up around Dollywood and Sevierville and Pigeon Forge, and they came home and said 'hey we can do this.' They started putting up chicken wire on metal posts and wiring lights through it."
And what started out from humble beginnings has turned into a tradition that's enjoyed by thousands of visitors each year to Minnow Bucket Road. There's literally tens of thousands of lights on display that start going up in October.
"It takes about a month. They're at it doing something every day," said James Adams. "It takes a lot longer to put up than it does to take down, but in the end, it's worth every bit of it."
Once the lights go up, they are on display for the public beginning the day after Thanksgiving until New Year's Eve. For the first time ever, Eric has used his technical skills to sync up the lights to music.
Another treat will happen on Saturday, December 15th, when Santa Claus will pay a visit. All the visitors will receive a candy cane and some hot chocolate and get to enjoy a beautiful holiday light show.
The Christmas Lights of Minnow Bucket Road are the perfect intersection of Christmas pasts and Christmas present.
Minnow Bucket Road is located off Highway 45 about 15 miles north of Meridian near the Dalewood community.
You can see the lights on display at no charge.
