51-year-old woman shot in the face in Collinsville
A local woman was shot in the face Sunday in Collinsville. Sheriff Billy Sollie says the victim did not report it or seek medical treatment until the next day.
Sollie says the 51-year-old woman had a bullet lodged in the right side of her face when she came to the sheriff's department Monday. he
insisted she go to the hospital.
Investigators interviewed the alleged shooter and other people who were at the house when it happened.
"In interviewing all the individuals at the scene, the picture is the female had a hatchet. The Individual that has been identified as the shooter had a small-caliber handgun. There was an altercation between the female and the male. That's where we are at this time with the investigation," says Sollie.
The victim is now in Jackson at University Medical Center in critical condition. Authorities say no one has been charged. The case is still under investigation.
