MERIDIAN, Miss. (WTOK) - People conducting local online buying and selling have a new, safe location to meet and finalize transactions.
They will be able to come to the lobby inside the Lauderdale County Detention Facility, which has round-the-clock security.
Holly Brand, of Meridian, who is the reigning Miss Belle of the Bayou and a contestant for Miss Mississippi, partnered with Lauderdale County Sheriff Billy Sollie to create an 'internet safe exchange zone', where people who conduct online transactions can safely meet to conduct business.
Brand says she hopes her idea will make people feel more secure when conducting transactions.
"I think it makes people feel safer. It brings the community and law enforcement together," said Brand. "It's not ideal for citizens and law enforcement to meet for the first time at a scene of a crime."
"We have 24 hours surveillance both outside and inside," said Sollie. "So if anyone wants a safe environment for exchanges, we believe the Lauderdale County Detention Facility will be a great location."
The internet safe exchange zone will launch next week.
