Alabama nearing 450 confirmed cases of COVID-19

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WBRC) - The Alabama Department of Public Health confirms there are now 440 cases of coronavirus in Alabama. Jefferson County has the most cases per county with 141, while Shelby has 45 cases.

There’s no way of telling how many cases will be confirmed in Alabama, but the state began taking precaution on March 13 when the second case was confirmed around 5 p.m. Gov. Kay Ivey announced all public schools will close at the end of the day on March 18, though many school systems have announced since that they will not reopen starting March 16.

The ADPH reports 2,812 people have been tested, but adds total tested primarily represents tests that were satisfactorily performed by the Alabama Department of Public Health (ADPH) Bureau of Clinical Laboratories (BCL), along with some data from commercial labs. Commercial labs are required, by law, to report positive tests to ADPH. Some commercial labs do not report negative specimens.
