JONES COUNTY, Miss. (WTOK) - The Jones County Sheriff's Department confirmed Wednesday it's involved in a large-scale animal abuse investigation in the southern part of the county.
Dozens of dogs and cats were discovered on the property, according to a news release from the Humane Society of the United States. It says the Mississippi Department of Wildlife and Southern Cross Animal Rescue are also helping to remove the animals.
HSUS says at least 65 dogs and 30 cats have been found neglected on a 161-acre property.
The organization says the animals are being evaluated at a temporary emergency shelter and will received veterinary care.
The sheriff's department says two people were at the property Wednesday but did not immediately comment on any possible charges.
