Representatives from Atmos Energy made a generous donation today to aid in statewide support of the Mississippi Children's Museum.
Atmos presented a check of $50,000 to museum executive director Liz Wilson. When completed, the museum will include educational and interactive displays focusing on literacy, arts, health, nutrition, math and science.
"We feel that we're getting two for the price of one really," said Robert Lesley, the Director of Public Affairs for Atmos. "We're donating to the arts and we're donating to education. Everybody in Meridian is going to be thrilled with the result. We just have no doubt about that."
"We have cleared the site and will be breaking ground this fall," says Children's Museum Executive Director Liz Wilson. "We're getting one step closer to opening our doors and serving the children and families and educators of East Mississippi.
Construction is expected to begin this fall. The museum will be on 22nd Avenue in Meridian at the old Sears location.
