Beware of holiday travel scams

JACKSON, Miss. (WLBT) - A common scam targeting travelers right now is bogus hotel listings.

Experts say your best bet is to book directly with the hotel, by calling its local number.

And you should use a credit card, rather than a debit card, because of the better fraud protections.

Scammers are also targeting drivers looking to rent a car online.

"A credit card, there's a level of protection in there because you get those charges first," said John O'Hara, president of BBB Mississippi. "If you don't get the item or the room didn't work out you can at least contest that charge and get your money back."
