MERIDIAN, Miss. (WTOK) - The city of Meridian is considering issuing $10 million in bonds for upgrades to roads and bridges.
City council members and Mayor Percy Bland talked about the need in a work session Tuesday.
Bland says the money is greatly needed for re-paving and overlay of city streets. He says potholes are being patched but streets are in need of permanent repair. If approved, the project would take place over a period of years.
"Most of the citizens here, streets, roads, and bridges are their primary concern," Bland said. "It causes damage to their vehicles, like potholes. We are excited that the council has listened to those voices. We're trying to put a package that will help us deal with some of those things.”
The proposal will be on the agenda for the council's regular meeting Feb. 18.
