Britton campaigning for Secretary of State office
A candidate in one of Mississippi’s biggest races made a stop in Meridian Thursday afternoon.
Waynesboro native Sam Britton is running as a Republican for Secretary of State. He serves as the public service commissioner for the southern district, and Britton says his experience handling challenging situations like the failed Kemper County power project will serve him well in this new role.
"The company regretfully had to write off $6.5 billion. That is ‘b’ as in ‘billions’ of dollars. The ratepayers, I’m proud to say, were protected from having to pay those rates,” Britton says. “The biggest thing it taught me is you can accomplish things in elected office."
Britton will face off against republican Michael D. Watson Jr. in the primary election.
