Car hits bus, then child in SE Lauderdale County

LAUDERDALE COUNTY, Miss. (WTOK) - A child was hit by a car in southeast Lauderdale County Wednesday afternoon. It happened around 3:30 p.m. on Old Highway 19 Southeast near Southeast Middle School.

Sheriff's deputies say a car hit the back of a stopped school bus which was letting students off at the top of a hill.

The impact of the collision caused the car to skid out of control off the road and down an embankment, hitting a student who had just gotten off the bus and was walking home.

Chief Deputy Ward Calhoun says, fortunately, the child's injuries appear to be minor.
