Carmichael to lead PEER Committee

State Sen. Videt Carmichael of Meridian (R-Dist. 33) has been elected to chair the state legislative Performance Evaluation Expenditure Review Committee.

Carmichael has been on the committee since 2012 and was vice-chair in 2017.

“I am honored to have been chosen chairman of such an important joint committee and I will do my best to serve,” Carmichael said.

Carmichael is also chair of the Senate Insurance Committee and vice- chair of the Senate Investigate State Offices Committee. The retired educator has served since 2000.

The PEER committee is composed of seven senators appointed by the lieutenant governor and seven representatives appointed by the speaker of the House.

Among the duties of PEER is to provide to the legislature program evaluations, background and special investigations and to conduct economy and efficiency reviews.

District 92 Rep. Becky Currie, R-Brookhaven, is 2018 vice-chair and is chair of the House Tourism Committee.

Rep. Timmy Ladner, R-Poplarville, is Secretary of PEER. Ladner is chair of the House Marine Resources Committee.
