MERIDIAN, Miss. (WTOK) - Bhavik Patel described Tuesday's late night crash as a scene straight out of a movie.
"Have you ever seen anything like this before in your life?” asked this reporter.
"In the videos, yeah. But not in real life," said Patel.
Patel is the manager of Citgo Gas Station in Meridian. He was standing behind the counter when a woman made a somewhat 'grand entrance' into his store.
"Well, I was right here," said Patel, gesturing. "I had a customer and he bought a phone card. As soon as he got his phone card he tried to run out. He saw it, the car coming," said Patel.
Video taken by Patel's cellphone shows the chaos and damage moments after first responders arrived on scene.
"So he ran and the next thing I saw was the car right here, he was over there, and everything just 'boom'!” exclaimed Patel.
According to Police Chief Benny Dubose, the driver rear ended someone at the intersection of 20th Street and Highway 19 and veered out of control and smashed through the service station's front doors.
He says the driver was not under the influence and was not charged with any wrongdoing. The woman told police she had no recollection of what happened.
"It scared me. It scared me, like, you don't even know," said Patel.
Patel expects repairs to cost thousands of dollars, but he is grateful that nobody was seriously hurt.
"We did a temporary fix, then the glass company came and put that, but nothing is final. We're still in the process," said Patel.
The store owner hopes to repair all the damage inside the gas station in the coming weeks.
