SUMTER COUNTY, Ala. (WTOK) - A woman who led police on a chase across state lines was arrested Wednesday after she stopped to pump gas at a West Alabama truck stop.

29-year-old Shakala Newsome was arrested at the Marathon Truck Stop in York around 10 a.m.

Mississippi Highway Patrol Sgt. Andy West says the chase started at the 119 mile marker of Interstate 20. Two troopers pulled Newsome over for a traffic violation, but she drove off heading east and they pursued her.

Sumter County Sheriff Brian Harris says the MHP stopped pursuit after Newsome left its jurisdiction but notified Alabama authorities.

Harris tells Newscenter 11 that once he arrived at the Marathon Truck Stop, Newsome was pumping gas in her silver Toyota Camry. Newsome attempted to flee but she was quickly arrested.

MHP will serve a warrant for Newsome's arrest and she'll be extradited back to Mississippi.

Multiple agencies assisted in the case.
