Lauderdale County deputies were able to take a break from patrolling to enjoy a free lunch, hosted a Trinity Lutheran Church.

Members at the church say the complimentary meal is provided annually as a token of appreciation for working around the clock to keep the community safe.

The church provided a hot meal for the local deputies and say they wanted nothing in return but to send them back to work full and happy.

"When you think about it, they're out there every day, every night. Twenty-four hours a day there are sheriff's (deputies) on patrol and we want to let them know that we appreciate them keeping things safe for us," said Kelly Miller of Trinity Lutheran Church.

"We are very thankful. We are fortunate that we work in a community and serve a community where we are thanked on a regular basis," said Maj. Charles Pickett.

Sheriff Sollie and several deputies were served at the church Wednesday.
