LAUDERDALE COUNTY, Miss. (WTOK) - Fire rendered a Clarkdale home a total loss Wednesday evening.
Smoke was visible from Highway 45, a half-mile away, as flames poured from the house on South Anderson Road in Lauderdale County.
Volunteer firefighters from Clarkdale, Long Creek, South and Southeast were called to the home during the 5 p.m. hour.
Joseph Boman, the son-in-law of the owners, said work was being done on the air conditioner that may have started the fire.
Boman said, "The only thing they had time to do was call 911, and thank goodness, for our local volunteer fire departments, they were able to get here. It is a total loss, but no lives were lost. We were able to save the pets, so all is well."
Boman says his mother-in-law and father-in-law will stay with him and his wife until they figure out their next step. He said his father-in-law built the house, and they have been living in it since 1972.
