Clarke Co. man shot to death during fight with girlfriend
Clarke County authorities are investigating after a man was shot to death near Enterprise Tuesday afternoon.
The call came in around 2 p.m. Sheriff Todd Kemp says a woman called 911, saying she had shot her boyfriend on Tuscahoma Road. The Enterprise police chief was the first to arrive on scene. He found a man there at the home with a fatal gunshot wound.
Investigators are still trying to determine whether this was an act of self defense. It's the second time in less than two weeks that a domestic situation has turned deadly in Clarke County.
"Best we can determine at this point, it was a domestic situation gone real bad," Sheriff Kemp says. "It's too much of a common occurrence that we're dealing with these domestics that get this violent. When we have a loss of life, it's just terrible."
Investigators aren't sure what led to the shooting, but they say there was a tussle over a small handgun the woman had. Her boyfriend was shot during the altercation. The woman was taken to a local hospital for an exam. The sheriff says she isn't facing any serious injuries, but it's taken an emotional toll.
"She was very upset, as well as could be imagined," Sheriff Kemp says. "She was very visibly upset."
The man's name has not been released.
