Clarke County authorities investigate thefts

CLARKE COUNTY, Miss. (WTOK) - Clarke County authorities are investigating a number of thefts in the area.

Sheriff Todd Kemp says a number of vehicles, ATVs and other property have been taken, including two cars in the past two days.

Kemp says people need to be mindful of where their property is and keep a close eye on places such as hunting camps. He says take things home with you.

“Don’t leave it for a would-be criminal to come there and get your stuff. Take the keys out of your vehicles. It’s our understanding that two vehicles stolen in town were unlocked and keys were in the vehicle. That’s inviting a would-be criminal to get your vehicle,” Kemp says.

Kemp says a white tow truck was also spotted stealing a truck a few weeks ago.

One of the most recent items reported stolen was the $25,000 John Deere tractor and a 20-foot trailer.

If you know where any of these items might be you are asked to call the Clarke County Sheriff’s Department at 601-776-5252.
