After recent flooding in Wayne County, an abandoned and historic bridge collapsed over the weekend.
The metal bridge crossed Buckatunna Creek. It was closed to the public nearly sixty years ago after a new bridge was built.
The old one-lane bridge was built in 1905 and was a monument of times gone by.
"Folks would come, even folks that weren't from this area, they would spot the old bridge and want to take pictures of it," said Buckatunna resident, Claude Risen. "Of course it was very odd. I mean, those bridges have disappeared now pretty much all over the country and it was an oddity. And like I say, we're going to miss the old fellow now that he's down in the creek."
Officials in Wayne County say they plan to remove the bridge from the water after the level drops.
