Commercial burglaries affect local businesses

MERIDIAN, Miss. (WTOK) - According to a recent media release, several Meridian businesses are being affected by commercial break-ins.

At least six businesses in Meridian have reported being burglarized recently. All of them happened hours apart within a 3-day time frame.

Edible Arrangements employee, Taylor Dailey, says the store has been the victim of a burglary.

"It makes people not want to come to our store. I makes it look like it's a bad location," said Dailey.

Meridian Police Chief Benny Dubose says burglaries often occur at similar places.

"An individual will hit the same type of business," Chief Dubose said. "If an individual is hitting storage buildings, that individual is probably not going to hit a doctor's office."

Dubose encourages business owners to take the necessary steps to ensure their business' safety.

"Commercial businesses need to pay attention to how well lighted the area around their business is," said Chief Dubose. "Some of these businesses are isolated."

Dubose also recommends all businesses have working camera surveillance and alarm systems.
