NESHOBA COUNTY, Miss. (WTOK) -- Most of us use milk on a daily basis but do you ever wonder where it comes from? If you drink whole milk, it may have come from a family owned and operated business in Neshoba County. Beason Family Farm is featured on County Road 11.

Shelby and Marlo Beason have been running their small scale dairy operation for about seven years now. And with only a few hired hands, a typical day consists of long hours.

"We milk twice a day, every day, 365 days a year," said Shelby Beason. "We start about 7:00 a.m. and takes us until about 9:30 a.m. Then again about 7:00 p.m., so two times a day between 7:00 and 9:00 milking cows every day."

And in between those times, there's plenty of other work to be done. The milk has to be processed and bottled up before it's ready to be trucked off to locations throughout central Mississippi, everywhere from West Point to Laurel and from Meridian to Jackson, and a lot of small towns and communities in between.

"We put about 900 to 1,000 miles a week on our delivery truck making deliveries to about 45 locations, restaurants, coffee shops and retail stores all combined," said Shelby Beason.

One unique twist on the Beason business is that customers can come to the farm in Neshoba County and purchase their products. And if you do, don't bring a debit or credit card.

"We have kind of an honor box, self serve system here," said Shelby Beason. "We don't have a cashier seeing after our store. People come in and get what they want. We have a little money bucket in there that they can make change and help themselves.

The Beason Family Farm in Philadelphia produces whole milk, butter milk and chocolate milk for many of us daily. They live up to their logo: "Udderly fresh from our family to yours."

The farm produces only non-homogenized milk and can be found in numerous grocery stores in east central Mississippi

They are located on Road 1343 in Philadelphia and can be found on Facebook or the web at Beason Family Farm.
