Detective remembered for her service to Meridian

Meridian police are mourning the loss of a former member of the department.

Detective Burta Mae Kelley Fitch was a long time member of the Meridian Police Department with almost 30 years of service.

She died Jan. 14 at Hospice Ministries in Ridgeland.

Visitation will be at Berry and Gardner Funeral Home, 1300 George F. Sims Avenue in Meridian, Friday, Jan. 24, from 7:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.

A viewing and Home Going Celebration will be held at Mt. Olive Baptist Church, 544 James Chaney Drive, Saturday, Jan. 25, starting at 10 a.m.

Burial will be at Okatibbee Cemetery, 5052 Fish Lodge Road in Meridian.

The family requests food and condolences be delivered to 3617 37th Street in Meridian.
