LAUDERDALE CO., Miss. (WTOK) - Jodee Crane is getting ready for the DYW of Mississippi Program next week.

“I’m doing a contemporary dance to ‘Unstoppable’ by Sia,” Crane says. “I’ve been dancing since really before I can remember, probably 3 years old here at Pat Gray Academy.”

Crane says she feels honored to be one of the representatives from Lauderdale County in this year’s program.

“It means so much to me because I’ve lived here my whole life, and you know, East Lauderdale, West Lauderdale, I just love sharing this with Demia and it’s so awesome to get to represent where I come from, and I really hope to make the community proud,” Crane says.

Crane is confident that she will be able to overcome any nerves she has.

“It’s really nerve wracking when you see all the competition kind of come in, but for me it’s just, you know, putting my blinders on and focusing on what I have to do for myself to prepare for the program,” Crane explains.

The local DYW program has already taught her some valuable life lessons. She is excited to learn more at the state-wide program.

“The motto [for the DYW Program] is ‘Be your Best Self’ and so it’s kind of hard to be your best self every day, but really what this program teaches and instills in young girls is that no matter your quirks or your imperfections, you have to get up every day and go on that journey to being your best self, and that’s what I hope to look back on years from now and say, well that’s what this program taught me,” Crane says.

The Distinguished Young Women of Mississippi Program will be held at the Temple Theater starting at 7:30 p.m. next Thursday and Friday, and then starting at 8 p.m. next Saturday.
